Even though I know where this is going, I have an anticipation that it won't go they way I know it will. It stills the heart.

Garland had me from the beginning. I was crying and pulling for him and his family within the first pages of the book. Also his lyrically way of describing the farming life gives a realistic and romantic view at the same time.

I identify with this book so much. It isn't the act of reading (although that is wonderful) it is having these concrete peices of history that if not taken in by you might be lost. Just as McMurtry says at the end of chapter 15.
