The way Sally Rooney writes dialogue without quotation marks —it’s just fragments in the whole of the story— is something I love. And I always take note of it with her writing. Even though it confuses me sometimes, too. It quickens the pace of the story. It has this breathy feeling like talking to someone. Not to mention, the way she captures relationships and intimacy. It’s so naturalistic.

I’m moving through this so slowly but I’m determined to finish. At first the absurdity of some of the magical realism wasn’t doing it for me. I think now, a 100 pages in, it’s getting to more of a point where I can see it going somewhere else, because of the initial world building.

I’m only like 50 pages in and it’s so weird and clever and eerie and grotesque I love it. also the art…gorgeous 😭
