Didn't finish.

Gave up on this one half way through. Not for me.

I've been struggling to concentrate these past couple of weeks due to a manic episode. What stands out for me is that Elly Griffiths has moved her setting for the Stephens & Mephisto Mysteries from the 1950's into the 1960's and is writing more about all the major characters than just the usual police procedural. It makes for an interesting change and I look forward to reading the rest of this book.

A problem with this. The publishers and NetGalley have given me a copy of the first in the Arrowood series and not this latest one. Hopefully, I'll be able to download the correct cop "Arrowood and The Thames Corpses" soon.

It's going to take me a while to get through this book because it has a lot of information in 780 pages (so far I've only read 50) and it's already changed my viewpoint on various aspects of the opening years of World War II in Britain.

I am now the proud-ish owner of a Kindle (a birthday present) and am mastering how to download AND READ e-books.*
I have also mastered how to load a PDF manuscript on to the Kindle, following receipt of a complimentary copy of same from Endeavour Press in return for a review on goodreads.

*It's also a lot lighter than some of the 500 page plus "doorstop" books that I've read these past few years!

Gave up on page 135. Bills itself as a World War II fiction based on fact, but the "facts" are wildly inaccurate and the rest of it reads like a kid's comic book. Utter tripe.

I've given up on this one for now. Despite all the rave reviews, I've found this story to be very slow with the author repeatedly battering the reader over the head with past events. I realise those events are probably crucial to the outcome, but I really don't need to be constantly reminded of them. Rant over.

I've given up on this one as the pages of dialogue by wooden characters explaining EVERYTHING spoiled the story.

Abandoned this book half way through. It's way too long and I'm fed up with the pompous ass who's the main character.

Gave up. This is nowhere as good as "The Rabbit Factory", the 1st in the Lomax and Biggs series.

Have put this on temporary hold.

Started and stopped and now I've gone back to the beginning and started again!

Finding it a bit slow. Too much background on the personal problemsof the police detectives.
