"If I had permitted my failures, or what seemed to me at the time a lack of success, to discourage me I cannot see any way in which I would ever have made progress. If we keep our faith in ourselves, and what is even more important, keep our faith in regular and persistent application to hard work, we need not worry about the outcome."

"To summarize, the economy-of-scale concept correctly identifies the opportunity that greater sales offer. Learning on a large scale, not equipment and plants on a large scale, explains how the concept works."

Hans Adam II presciently brings up the possibility of small states issuing their own metal-based currency once again. For all his remarkable intelligence the book was written in 2009 and he is very much a child of the 20th century; I think as well as he could have the Prince predicted the possibility of electronic commodity currency (crypto) as an alternative to fiat currency.

"It is much easier to mobilize masses of people with populist slogans and ideologies than to engage them in the long, tedious, and complicated process of creating an efficient democracy and the rule of law."

"It is reasonably certain that we would still have stagecoaches-nationized, to be sure, heavily subsidized, and with a fantastic research program to 'retrain the horse' had there been a ministries of transportation around in 1825."

"The man who focuses on efforts and stresses his downward authority is a subordinate no matter how exalted his title and rank. And the man who focuses on contribution and who takes responsibility for results, no matter how junior, is in the most literal sense of the phrase, 'top management.'"

"The spectacle afforded by Carthage irritated the Barbarians; they admired it and execrated it, and would have liked both to annihilate it and to dwell in it."

"If we are so contemptibly selfish that we can't radiate a little happiness and pass on a bit of honest appreciation without trying to get something out of the other person in return-if our souls are no bigger than sour crab apples, we shall meet with the failure we so richly deserve."
