Heaven forbid that the curiosity and narrative tension not be resolved by the discovery of a woman's corpse.

Some of the stories so far have been good, but I confess I'm getting a tiny bit bored by the number of protagonists thinking about sexy women, or mutilated women, or dead women, or the (usually nameless) combinations thereof.

Victoria is nailing pretty much everything that had me side-eyeing Tom, TBH. I hope she lives until the end of the book.

Really liking how Jenny has been developing.

"But this is a dream I didn't even realize I had." Me either. At all.

That said, at least Jenny is actually trying to get a thing without being shoved into it by the universe (eviction, pregnancy), so I'm hoping she's developing as a character.

I'm about a third of the way in, and Tom getting a haircut is a bigger, more emotionally upsetting deal than Jenny (who was never into the idea of motherhood) getting pregnant.

(When Jenny recalls the proposal, Tom said "the most amazing things in that moment, things she had always wanted to hear from a man" and *I have no idea what those are.* I have so little sense of who she is or what her relationship means.)

Bit of a heavy-handed start - I've been bounced out of the story twice already by the proposal backstory - but giving the book a chance.

Dense to get into, but engaging. Unfortunately, need to return it to the library; have to renew my request and put it on hiatus for now.

The difference between the truth and a lie is that both of them can hurt, but only one will take the time to heal you afterward. - Georgia Mason
