i thought it was the spookiness that was freaking me out. but the spookiness is not scary. what is freaking me out, i realize, is the fucking POVERTY. the tent cities. in US metropolises, in rich states, tent cities. i just fucking can't.

this book is fantastic.

i love this book but it's not an easy read. i may have to set it aside. let's see if i can tolerate it.

i have to start this from the beginning bc the audiobook is ATROCIOUS.
