Sagan muses on the scale of the universe from the Local Cluster to earth, compares our current view on the "shore of the cosmic ocean" to that of the ancients in Eratosthenes' time looking out across the Atlantic and wondering what was out there, then remarks on the knowledge collected by the ancients, gathered at the Library of Alexandria and destroyed by human foolishness. And finally connects us to the Big Bang.
