my childhood bestie, mary, texted me out of the blue (we check in maaybe once a year) asking for my address, following up a couple weeks later to let me know a box was arriving at my door. she wrote, “i saw this book and thought of you, your impeccable taste in music, and your culinary skills in equal measure.” when i saw the title i nearly cried - reader, she Sees me!! time cannot separate true love!!

“It is a gift to see the world through Marsha’s eyes. In order to change the harshest conditions—to survive in a world not designed for your survival; to believe in your dignity amid constant disempowerment, violence, and loss—you have to be able to see beyond what is right in front of you. Instead, you need to see into what is possible: what might have been, what could be, what will be.”
