More (bitter)sweet than scary and no big surprises but very enjoyable

Last year I started DNFing fiction books left and right and felt surprisingly great about it. But I couldn't bring myself to DNF a nonfiction--saying I wasn't into the material felt like I was just dumb or uneducated. 2019, though, new year new me.
I may come back to this one in the future, because flipping through future sentences did catch my eye. But for now, sadly, I'm putting it back on the shelf.

One of the leads is "22 pounds overweight" and I've lost track of the number of fat/chubby/hefty descriptors. Really?
