Issacson writes a very accessible, yet scholarly, biography. Franklin is revealed as a long-faithful subject of the throne, heartbroken by the ultimate need for revolution, but fiercely resolved for independence once it became clear that was the only route with a future.

Thus far, typical Berry: writing that uses plain language, thought that is both deep and broad, and a vision for a land and a people that America can and ought to become.

Marcus is a wonderfully visionary writer.
