Marianne is 8% done with Ancient Greece
Well, I couldn't follow H.D.F. far too condensed and too much for me, so I got a companion reader, but it seems that what is defacto in Kindersley is still up for consideration in Kitto. Anyway, building my understanding so that the next time Madeleine Miller writes I'll be better prepared (I'm also incredibly deficient to Partition History for my reading of Midnight's Children

Marianne is starting More Than Human
This is off to a fantastic start! Complex, intriguing, beautifully orchestrated, I hope Sturgeon can keep this up. In fact, I'm going to start it from the beginning again as it is complex and I don't want to miss any nuance.

Just finished, The Adventure of Silver Blaze, what a surprise when Holmes says, and then there was the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime! I had no idea, how many more nuggets will there be! Absolutely delighted.

It's so immaculately timeless. I was asked if spending 27 years on this book was worth it. Yes, every magnificently turned (albeit translated beautifully) word, observation, insight and reflection. Yes. Excited as the dawning of the last few hundred pages present but daunted at a life without Proust...

Marianne is starting Middlesex
This is the most finely constructed novel. The multiple layers of story-telling, woven together with silken thread, slowly drawn through the pages of history and family. Eugenides takes the reader's hand and walks with you. I baulk at overly crafted reads, but this feels as if we are walking the same road, for the first time. I know it is a story but I feel as if I am right there, spanning time and place.

Slamming doors, protests, paedophiles, 'fuck', was this a TV script?

Marianne is finished with The Liberation of Sita
I was getting mad with Sita for a bit there; I could not understand why she was subjugating herself to Rama's indifference, until I get to the bit where Rama feels he has to subjugate himself to the needs of his position. I was very sad for both of them. I am confused now as to the lesson, if there is a lesson. How to be in love to be free, and to be ones self. I met a woman lighting a candle for Ganesh. I guess.

Marianne is finished with Atlas Shrugged
If you like to keep up with the classics, this is certainly one, a fascist rant from a bygone age that is horribly familiar even today as selfish capitalism grows horns. Ayn Rand's theory lacks a basis in reality, as does the story. In one way it drove me to think about systems, and how the ultimate failure of any system of human governance and life is doomed due to the tragedy that is human nature.

Marianne is on page 179 of 298 of The Explosive Child: A New Approach For Understanding And Parenting Easily Frustrated, Chronically Inflexible Children
Ross Greene is a talented, insightful, loving doctor who specialises in explosive children . Educators should be reading this. Parents who've been told they are just too permissive for years and still weep should read this. And anyone with a heart to expand an understanding for the families who live like this. Superb book. I've had three days with no explosions. I am delighted!

If this sounds like your child, you're probably feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, guilt-ridden, exhausted, and hopeless." When you look at it like that, doesn't sound like a feel-good book. But, if you have been living with an explosive child, as a parent, educator, friend, family. Read this! Our lives have changed dramatically since I learned such obvious, common sense strategies.
