I like the overall setup of this book. The recipes are organized so I could access them quickly if needed.

I like the book so far, and I know that the series is supposed to pick up later on. I feel like this book is a little slow going, perhaps if I sat down and read it in one shot, it would go faster for me.

So far I don't mind the story. It's a bit jarring to read two first person present tense POV in tandem, which explains why Riddle prefaced each chapter with the character whose POV we're reading. Something in me rebels against the use of first person (I think I was taught against its use?) in a novel, but once I shelved that idea, the story seems to move forward a bit easier.
What is James' secret?!?

Holy, this book is an eye opener. We've seen a million movies about the allied side of the conflict, and it's easy to think about the enemy as those Krauts etc...but they were people too, trying to defend what they saw as a united Europe. This book gives you an idea what it was like to be there...
