Wow. Mind blown within the first 15 min of reading. Moskowitz drives straight to the heart of the matter, demystifying gentrification which is usually spoken of in terms of its symptoms rather than the root cause, using New Orleans, NYC, SF and Detroit as case studies.

I love that I knew very little about this book before picking it up. I also have read none of Faulkner 's books, and apparently this is not similar to his others. No matter -- now that I got the hang of his syntax, I am moving a little faster through the misadventures of Boon, little Lucius, and Ned and giggling the whole way. Found out there was a movie adaptation starring Steve McQueen! Can't wait to watch it later

Glad I'm finally getting around to reading this front to back, however, it is a devastating and demoralizing read that is both infuriating/defeating and can make you feel powerless to the forces of greed. It's also a stunning feat of journalistic enterprise; Klein rightfully deserves all the accolades imo, yet the scale of the attack she's launched is overwhelming and I'm trying to catch up on which takes still hold.

Even though this was released in 2007 it is still highly pertinent. I would love to hear Kline's thoughts on our current state of affairs in the US-- sure does feel like a shocking time. I'll have to see what her most recent interviews have to say.
