This book has been on my top 20 for decades and will stay there. It’s funny because it’s about a place, culture and time that holds little interest for me and yet, the story is excellent. It’s a sweeping saga, my favorite, and covers a lot of ground. I love the cultural tug of war faced by the main character and the love story rings true. Plus, The settee ritual is fascinating. Glad to reread this one.

Seems like such a good premise but it just never went anywhere. And even at the end, when it came close to arriving somewhere, I wasn’t sure how it happened. But I did appreciate the setting.
