This book is so problematic and sexist. Internalized misogyny all over the place.

This book was published in 2015 and it’s overwhelming how totally cringe and out of date it is.

The amount of peer pressure and coercive to get her to tutor him built upon a character that had her consent taken from her at age 15 is just gross.

Did she escape a cult? Or grow up Amish? Her parents set up her marriage but she’s also somehow educated. So.. did she runaway early and go to college? I cannot buy someone from such a high control religion also being free enough to get a college education.

Belle is so annoying.

You’re telling me she went to film school and has a masters in film studies and she doesn’t know how editing works??? Excuse me? Has she never seen a dating show?

Why is she bringing donuts to set??? Most likely crafty has this in the morning.

I am enjoying this book! But, I work in the film industry and there are a lot of production issues here.

There’s no world where someone is going for a masters in film studies after undergrad bc they want to be a director. This makes no sense.

I really struggle with how often so many romance books fall in the third act. Seriously, I get to the third act and look how many books sit around 70% in my Goodreads log? They sit there and then I start another book. Then I do a clean sweep to finish the last bit.

Also, Wuthering Heights is NOT a romance and you cannot convince me.

I’m rereading this and I still like it. lol

I like this but I also think the FL is annoying. Girl, you need a therapist.

I’m having a difficult time with this. The divorce b plot is so infantilizing.

What’s the deal with this prom subplot? She’s a teacher. She can drink punch at the prom with Martin.
Girl needs a therapist.

Also, not saying the author needs to live the character’s trauma. But, painting Rose’s trauma as someone who thrifted her clothes, was on EBT, and GASP, lived in a trailer park just totally missed the mark for me.

Wait, her ex’s name is Barton and her current romantic interest’s name is Martin?! Do the names have to rhyme? Is nobody else reading this?!?!

The parent storyline is killing me. The way the dad talked to Colin when they met him was so fucking weird. Also he calls Colin a zaddy. If the parents are that mad, why don’t they both just leave the cabin?

A grown adult trying to parent trap her separating parents is overwhelmingly cringe.

Returned this to the library. Ugh, I found the FL so annoying. I also hate how the author wrote her. I was excited to read a book with a neurodivergent character but I hated how much she felt infantilized and naive. She is high functional enough to have a professional career but her internal thoughts and dialogue sound like a 13 year old. It felt icky.

Why is their dad such a dick???
