I am re-re-reading this and it won't be the last time. Might make it an annual dealing. I heard a rumor that a sequel is in the works and might be published next year, which is not nearly soon enough for my grabby glob of thinky thing and/or the squishy cartoid toy that powers it and the rest of this fleshy mess. I adore this book (and did i mention it suggested Savages 'Adore' 4 which i'll be forever indebted to it.

I have been listening to Midwife's 'No Depression in Heavenin Heaven' album on repeat while accidentally, but unapologetically, reading way too much of this one in one sitting and , simultaneously, two-timing Hell's Heart, which i was reading avidly and loving every moment of previously. Im now hooked & the music seems to be the perfect accompaniment...melancholic, forlorn, bittersweet, gritty, & self deprecatory.

I don't usually read multiple novels at the same time, but now I guess I am and I'm not sure what to do about it. Quit one and finish the other? Read a bit of both off and on? I ended up in this quandry because I picked this one up at the library earlier and started reading a few pages to test the waters a bit and just got sucked in. I like it that much. I might just stay up all night and finish it in one sitting.

Only a few more pages in, but im savoring what is a delectably pleasant experience. Every sentence is a treat. Upping my rating to give it all the stars prematurely because it deserves it, and it certainly deserves much more than the lowish rating it's ending up with because of its pessimistic detractors. What exactly is being reacted to so vehemently? I wonder. And again...this is so wonder-filled and wonder fueled.

I really like the tone of the narrator which is self deprecatory and satirical without going completely overboard with bitter cynicism. The references are well placed and contextually appropriate without being all know it all and overtly pretentious. So far, soon good.

maybe I'm extra excited to be reading something I'm so immediately taken by because of a few recent disappointments from volumes I had been eagerly anticipating that left me less than enthusiastic (especially that one that I was frantically expecting to be totally run over by, but that somehow missed me by a mile no matter how hard I tried to get caught in the glare of its oncoming lights).

I don't usually do this, but I feel like giving this one an early thumbs up even though I'm barely half a league or so in...
