I did not expect nor want this book about eels to tell me about Freud's theory of penis envy

Ugh I should've paid more attention to the description that said "blending memoir and nature writing". I'm here for the eels, not for personal stories.

I've been listening to the Mortal Kombat album lately, so I'm pleased to see that Fumiko's husband is named Goro. I'll be imagining him as eight feet tall with four arms of terror if he shows up in any scenes.

Nothing terrible so far, just boring!

I don't remember why this was on my to-read list, I knew nothing about it, looked it up to see what language it was originally in and saw a bit of a spoiler in the very basic description... it's gonna get worse than just the ick of a (12? 15? 17?)-year old getting engaged to her mother's ex, pray for me to get through it for the sake of literature

I watched My Cousin Vinny right before reading the part with the legal transcripts where Mr Basie is antagonizing the judge and it felt quite familiar!

This came well-recommended but I'm not sure how much I can take of this play-within-a-novel

Not a tale for the time being, but a tale for the time being! Much more interested now! Then I start reading: "A time being is someone who lives in time, and that means you, and me, and every one of us who is, was, or ever will be." Ugh. Much less interesting."

Another book challenging my habit of reading while I eat. Thank god I already don't eat meat
