If I'm gonna go to the international Barth conference this year, I should probably learn a little about the guy...

It's been a long time since I've read a bible scholar who is wholeheartedly and unashamedly committed to the historical-critical method. Here we goooooooooo

I've been trying to finish this book, off and on, since like 2007. (Okay I'll be honest it's been off more than on.) But I think I might finally read and finish this book. I can feel it in the air.

Coming back to an old favorite. (Oxford edition this time.) Devastatingly good.

I've tried reading different translations of the Divine Comedy, but I keep coming back to the Sinclair version. This time around, I'm going to give Anthony Esolen's translation a try...

I had a craving to read some Barth. I started reading Barth and then I was like, "Oh yeah, I can get the same stuff but in a clearer, more succinct and more humble voice with John Webster."

So back to Webster it is...

I haven't tackled this book since I dabbled in it in seminary. Let's give it another shot... although I'm only in the preface and already Alter's palpable arrogance hovers thick in the air like the waftings of a well aged cheese

I am trying, once again, to tackle this poem. So far, it is really resonating with me in a way that it did not the first two times I tried to read it.

I think this might be the time I finally read it. (feeling hopeful)
