Chapter 19

For just a few pages, I may have actually felt sorry for Mr. O. Now that's some good writing! But a few pages later I was like "Nevermind."

I received an ARC in exchange for my review. Release date is April 26th.

Damn you Facebook, taunting me with sponsored ads! My resolve to refrain from purchasing Kindle books until I read some from my TBR pile was just not strong enough.

I finished book 2, Vampire Moon, in the set. The pace picks up in this book! Samantha protects a battered wife whose ex-husband wants her dead, considers how to satisfy a client's need for revenge on the crime boss that killed his wife, all while battling her own husband over the kids. Good thing this is a 3 box set because I had to go right to the next book to find out the identify of Sam's internet confidant.

I have finished the first book in the set: Moon Dance.
It's a good introduction to the main character, Samantha Moon, and those she encounters. The way Samantha's vampiric "condition" complicates her ability to work and care for her children is analogous to challenges faced by other moms with chronic health conditions. I appreciate Sam's snide inner dialog and like the way book 1 easily segues into book 2.

After finishing part I, I thought at least I wasn't as big a Dr. Who geek as Matthew Waterhouse--then I remembered that I wanted to name my first child "Adric", but was overruled by his other parent...

Today I became so immersed in Regina's character while reading that I suddenly entertained thoughts of buying Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's recently listed home in Wauwatosa. If I could afford it, I'd buy it and re-decorate it with mythological creatures. After all, he's been living in a fantasy during his time as Governor! I think Regina, who can't vote but still wields political power, would approve.

OMG! Characters discussing sanitation and water contamination! Could this book get any better?
"'You make me wonder,' said George, 'how any of us survive.'
'Some do not, Sir George. In some of the worst districts of the town: Goodwives Lane, Calenick Street, the old opes in Pydar Street, cholera, the pox, typhus, measles, scarlet fever--'"

Book 1, chapter 12, section III, p. 173 "Making money at gambling was like seeing ghosts: you never met someone who'd seen a ghost, only someone who knew someone who'd seen a ghost. You only met people who knew people who'd made at fortune..."

This book fits number 10 in the 26 book challenge: A book set somewhere you've always wanted to visit (Ireland)
