This is absolutely delightful. It reminds me of a cross between Jennifer Crusie and Jodi Taylor’s Frogmorton Farm series (mostly because of the British country house setting).

So far, I like the story, the characters, and much of the writing but keep getting pulled out of it by the author’s use of modern idioms. For example, maid working in a house in Regency England wouldn’t use the phrase “out of the loop”. The author also used “on the regular”. That works in a contemporary but it’s jarring in a historical.

I may have to DNF this one.

Got through a couple of chapters that didn’t do anything for me. Skipped to the end and still nothing. Not terrible. Just not the book for me.

I'm not even a quarter of the way through and I keep snort laughing out loud. This is exactly what I needed to read this week.

I love the characters and the story so far but the overuse of “anyways” (it’s anyway, dammit) is driving me slowly crazy.

I like this way more than I expected.

This is a small thing, but it’s irritating me like a rock in my shoe.

A character in the book, who has been previously identified as being 36 years old, complains about a young, inexperienced employee by saying, “you know how those millennials are.”

Bitch please. You ARE also an effing millennial.

I normally fly through Scalzi’s books. I’m having trouble getting into this though. I think it’s because it’s a little too close to real life right now.

I normally like Scalzi, but am having a hard time getting into this. It’s too close to reality right now.

This is really good. It reminds me of Sarah Addison Allen's books.

This is absolutely delightful. It's the perfect book to read during a pandemic.

Love this so far. It’s witty and a little whimsical.

This is different than I expected. Other than a few quibbles about language (the main characters speak in a more modern way than I’d expect for their backgrounds), I’m really enjoying it.
