Interesting choice as to where they are starting in the story. So far it's pretty straight forward on the older teen school drama, but with entertaining fantasy goings on.

good, but a couple things bother me i haven't put my finger on yet.

Feels sorta Enders Game reality, with Hyperion lvl societal commentary, and all in a new package the reads like a golden age scifi.

The unquestioning subservience disquised as duty is currently annoying the ever-loving crap outta me, but we'll see where the author takes it.

I really can't get past the whole scientific story being based on, and set off by, a scientific fallacy. It just sits there, constantly niggling in the back of my thoughts while listening to the book. Add to that the both very real, and very unreal nature of the character's mentality and dialogue. It's also not really that well written. It does all the necessary things. It just doesn't do them well.

Just tell me if Marta dies...'cause I just can't.

I'm afraid to go through more of this book because Marta might die. Kill all the "sentient" beings ya want in a story. It may be sad, unfair, etc., but kill a full character critter and count me out. There's just a whole other level of unfair cosmic b.s. to innocent critters getting ganked (honest self-defense aside).
