Hold up! Beatrix Potter is hanging out right in the middle of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark??? What is this book?

I'm definitely invested and then I see I still have like half the book left. What more tragedy can happen? How much more [dog] bullying do I need to endure?

I wouldn't normally pick up this book, but my reading remediation group chose it as a read aloud. We started it today. The kids seem to like it. I'm enjoying it so far. There's more family drama right now than football drama.

As I reread this, I'm struck all over again by Pasulka's wonderful language. I'll be reading along and then just a single phrase will jut out, striking me with its brilliance, its imagery. This truly is a gem.

Things are getting a bit weird now. Was really digging it (pun intended) until this new little turn.

I'm loving this so much, but I get confused because it reminds me of Courage for Beginners in some ways.

Started reading this today after EOG testing. I'm hooked, confused, and anxious-- all good things in this case.

This book is going to break my heart, isn't it?
