just finished part 1 and can i just say that this reads like a novel??? i mean it as a compliment, the narrative is simply just so well-written

from a craft standpoint, this is probably john's best writing so far. he just packs so much so well

Similarly, much of what we imagine as dichotomous turns out to be spectral [...] and much of what appears to be the work of individuals turns out to be the work of broad collaborations.

I've heard John speak of this sentiment for so long I am excited that everyone else is reading about it now.

I am enjoying this read so much.

i just went to mass yesterday for the first time in a while so i may be feeling a little more insane than usual, but i still think about eileen's email about simon and then alice's email about her feelings for jesus gave me whiplash and made me cry. se me puso toda la piel de gallina. i feel like i shouldn't take everything alice says at face value but UGH she really got me there

i'm back on a children's and ya literature class reading, analysing and maybe even writing some good old children's fiction. i'm so excited

oh sally rooney your characters are DELIGHTFULLY annoying and obtuse and fragile and dear to me

the writing style? FOR ME. these flawed characters verging just enough on a bit annoying? FOR ME. literally listened to the first three hours nonstop. this is so good

i loved the audiobook so much and i will continue listening to it but i'll do it after i read my digital loan, since i want to give my full, undivided attention to patchett's gorgeous writing style. can you tell that this type of litfic is specifically catered to me.

the writing is so so so good. i never read thrillers but this one is just so enticing in every other way other than how-we'd-catch-the-guy. such a complete perspective

the true unrealistic expectations of fiction: boys who are nice and too good to be true AND adults who encourage kids and treat them like people

she's a little grumpy teenager but I still like her a lot

I put this audiobook on thinking it was going to be light-hearted and sweet and it is. But I'm also being constantly kicked to the ground. I love Elizabeth Acevedo so much.

I can't believe I had to listen to the description of a scene and then to some lines read verbatim from Fifty Shades of Grey. At least, we got Emily's reinvention of the scene to make up for it. She's hilarious and it really makes the book all the more enjoyable.
