Having read chapter 15, I realize that I was wrong. Captain Blood is a hero in some way, although his "profession" is not one of virtue.

This is becoming progressively better and more realistic. In the beginning, I was thinking that Peter Blood was intended as some sort of hero or model, but I see that is not the case (yet). Perhaps his story has a moral lesson to it.

I feel like Sabatini's style is a little sloppy on this one. His narrative is a bit sketchy and underdeveloped, though still enjoyable. This could have been such a great book if only the author had paid more attention to details.

It would be dishonest for me to affirm that I have comprehended every scientific problem and concept explained in this book so far. When I first picked it up, I only hoped to enrich, at least a bit, my general knowledge of science. And there seems to be indeed a great deal of such information.
I love the way this book combines science with philosophy and literature, through references to SF works and great thinkers.

So far, I can tell that this book is not going to be the masterpiece that Hardy's Tess was. It seems like a nice love story, but I have a feeling that a twist will occur soon.

I don't know what to say anymore. Everything is upside down in my head now. I had been thinking of Hwi Noree as some sort of ingénue, a delicate and pure young woman, but I seem to have underestimated her.
She abruptly offers herself to (the latest) Duncan Idaho, for some reason I cannot fully understand (some last-minute romance Herbert introduced to the novel).
(What about the rebels? What happened to them?)

I have realized that it might be necessary for me to read this book twice, in order to understand it better. Hwi Noree and Leto's intention of marrying her were quite a surprise.

This is different from what I expected when I started to read it. Leto presents some interesting (and sometimes obscure) philosophical ideas here. An intriguing character so far, with opposing qualities. I will definitely keep reading!

I think this is the funniest book I've ever read! I've literally fallen in love with Ostap Bender and I'm so excited to read the sequel to The Twelve Chairs. The last 10 chapters seem promising, and, man, once again, Ostap Bender is purely awesome!

Man, I'm so angry at Vorobyaninov for losing the money he needed to recover the chairs, but I guess this just makes the book better. Time for Ostap Bender to use his genial mind and recover the chairs one by one.
