Although the families in the book live in Atlanta, their stories are so familiar to me. I can say as someone who works with working poor in Midwest, the eviction system grinds up human beings just the same everywhere.

This is painful, like getting a particularly painful injection. I am pretty well inoculated to fascism already. How do we get these ideas where they need to be? To the folks who have been persuaded or grifted into thinking strong man regimes are good?

One thought I had so far was that I tend to think of Europe as this bastion of liberalism and that they are not racist like the US. Oh boy am I totally wrong about that.
