The first 30 pages give beautiful summary of his biography and the book.

It is such a sobering book to remind me to be watchful during this pandemic. The author has faithfully used Puritans and other godly men from the 19th century to encourage and remind Christians why we need to be watchful in the age of gadgets and the internet. Brian Hedges stands tall in the Twenty-First century with the help of godly men in the last 500 years. This is a must-read book for all particularly pastors.

An excellent book and Puritan guide..

The timeline and chapter 1 are informative.

It is a beautiful book that describes about the heart of Christ toward us.

Goodwin wrote this because “he felt that many Christians have been too much carried away with the rudiments of Christ in their own hearts, and not after Christ himself. The minds of many are so wholly taken up with their own hearts that Christ is scarce in all their thoughts.”

Interesting title

Going great. In the first four chapters, he deals with ultimate question.. who am I ? What’s my identity? What’s is my call? How does the world see me and how God sees me? What is the biblical understanding of call?

A must read book

The author says.. preaching Christ “with words of wisdom” not enough..

when the preacher uses of high vocabularies, theological terms which are not familiar and Hebrew & Greek words, he shows to the people “how intellectual he is’.

The author says, “they came to see Jesus. They have seen only that man in the pulpit and his empty abstractions. They asked bread, and he gave them a stone.”

On fire..

“You may say a great deal about and around the gospel, and never preach the gospel”
