I am reading this in conjunction with a recording of the Sonnets. I listen as I look at the text. This allows me to pay attention to the sonic properties and rhythm of the poetic lines as well as imagery and metaphor.

The book is in the horror genre but with Christian characters. I don't know where the plot will go.

An interesting read.

I am completing the trilogy by reading the middle book.

The violence of the mountain community is shocking, but offset by sublime thoughts on the part of some characters.

Rivers, alligators, small farms, and storms fill this book.

Fast paced, yet profound.

Wendell Berry said that all writing is placed based. This is certainly true of Bill Hilton‘s writing.It describes and supports his education and research efforts on a small farm.

Lopez is a talented author, and each of his books is a gem, shining brightly in the literary world. His 2013 essay, "Sliver of Sky," was shocking to me and perhaps to many of his other readers. In this essay, he revealed his childhood trauma of long term severe abuse by a "friend" of the family. He is lucky to have survived. I am glad he did.
