Insomnia is on page 112 of 528 of Racheherbst (Walter Pulaski, #2)

What genre is this? Should I know in advance? Not the proposed Horror it seems.

The last time a protagonist felt like bunnies were watching them, I knew the genre was horror and the book read like it (What moves the dead). What's this gonna be? The Horror hasn't started yet. Or is the Horror the reader's boredom and the author and previous readers of this book are secretly sharing a laugh about fooling new readers?

I don't know if nothing is happening in this story or if the protagonist is imagining her best friend and the author will try to convince me that's the plot at some point. Either way, get on with it, please, I'm bored. Also: Too many popculture references I feel like I need to look up to actually imagine anything about the setting.

This is book 2. Why does the protagonist revert to being annoyed by almost everything (especially her uncle)? She was over that.

So, I pretty much read the first 150 pages in one go right when the book came out and then could not bring myself to finish it. It was good, better than the most recent YA book by the author. (I might not be into her YA stories anymore.) It just was not the book I wanted to read at the time. Here we are almost exactly seven months after I started the book... and I just remembered, I didn't even add it to goodreads...

Quote from the blurb:
"Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything [...]"
Where is your inspiration, Darrow? Where was your love, Darrow? On paper you sacrificed a lot, but do you feel that, Darrow? I don't feel it.

Had I known about the Hunger Games aspect, I might have skipped this. Despite all this, time flies while reading Red Rising.
