Wendy Beckman is finished with The Physics Around You
"A body falling freely as it is acted on only by its own weight experiences a constant acceleration of 'g' near the earth. Yet some bodies (feathers, for example) do not fall with that acceleration. If all did, it wouldn't be safe to be hit on the head by a raindrop, and it wouldn't help skydivers to carry a parachute."

This started off great. I loved the set-up and local references. I ignored some grammar and usage mistakes because I liked the plot. I'm now halfway through but torn between wanting to finish it and wanting to put it down. Personally, I don't like the sexual turn the book just took. We'll see.

Wendy Beckman is 10% done with The Lord of the Rings
Farewell we call to hearth and hall!
Though wind may blow and rain may fall,
We must away ere break of day
Far over the wood and mountain tall.

To Rivendell, where Elves yet dwell
In glades beneath the misty fell,
Through moor and waste we ride in haste,
And whither then we cannot tell.

...We ride before the break of day!

OK, first off, the British punctuation is driving me nuts! It's odd and not even consistently odd! This is a very thorough, well-researched book. Hempel is providing help for me (but not in a good way) of how to craft the book I'm currently working on. She gets the reader up to the point of high tension, then drops waaaaay back to explain the results of her research. I can see a paragraph or two, but pages? Argh!!
