Rereading this again, this time in tandem with the audiobook narrated by Jeremy Irons. I realize now that every other time I've read this book it has been in the autumn months. Perfect.
Another interesting personal nota bene is that I am starting this just as I am finishing Stoner by John Williams. I have 3 chapters left of it, but it strikes me as a kind of anti-Brideshead novel. More thoughts on this to come later.

This is so good so far! One part memoir and one part Shakespearean deep-dive. As often happens with audiobooks, I’m thinking I need a physical copy of the book to be able to reference, annotate, and reread.

Oh, wow. This is sublime.

I have no idea where this is going (I have diligently avoided all spoilers and gone in as blind as possible), but I am really really enjoying this read. It’s dreamlike and definitely Lewisian. Specifically puts me in mind of his Ransom Trilogy.
