I stumbled on this book during a Google search of my last name. Had it on my Google Books shelf for five years and finally decided to start reading. It's author was one of those people in the late 19th century who seemed to be an "everyman" -- statesman (Confederate, unfortunately), world traveler, author, diplomat, historian. Looking forward to uncovering this fictionalized version of his experiences.
