I personally prefer this scene in the miniseries; Richard Armitage delivered the dialogue brilliantly. Sandy Welch knows how to adapt a novel, I've never seen anything by her I didn't like - North and South, Jane Eyre (and even Emma) are really really well adapted.

(Speaking of the miniseries, this proposal scene escalates so absurdly fast and with such relentless intensity that even after dozens of rewatches, it still leaves me speechless. Jesus fucking Christ. When I watched it again last week, I had to keep pausing because the shock and secondhand embarrassment were almost too much to handle)
