Asa Mahan parallels the salvation of the sinner with the baptism of the Spirit in a believer, both as gifts that God offers to all those who, as it were, seek to unwrap them. Warfield counters that not all sinners are given, let alone characterized by, pardon and eternal life; whereas believers are promised, and in fact distinguished by the Holy Spirit. (Rom 8:9)
