I’m reading this book as a part of a bookclub, reading one short story every week and discussing it over Discord. So I’m gonna be reading this one for a while, y’all!

Slow going. This is the only Octavia Butler book that I haven’t instantly loved. I usually don’t let one detail ruin a book for me, but the MC looks like a child (her vampire age is much older) and yet is put in sexual situations and it’s just really creeping me out.

I had to switch to a physical book from audio because it was getting too intense (parts that made me want to put it down all together). So much anxiety.

Bonkers. Batty. I'm having a blast. Yes, it's sad and anxiety provoking. Yes, I know it's going to all come crumbling away. I already know I'm going to have the worst book hangover when this is over.

I feel like I’ve read two books in one, and am just now starting the third & final (?). Not as juicy as SH but this one is for the fans of DT’s writing style for SURE.

Never fear— Boris has arrived, everyone! I loved his description of how all the borders change and how he moved around a lot because that’s what my “Russian” (probably Czech / Ukrainian) ancestors did too.

If Donna Tartt is the only thing keeping me happy during the rise of fascism, then I’m leaning into Donna Tartt. This book is so Dickensian. There’s literally an old curiosity shop with a sickly orphan in the back.

This book is un-put-downable. I keep losing sleep because I need to read one more chapter.
