This is a kind of artist's novel but also a kind of social novel, and it has a lot about sports drinks, weird wheat whiskey and NFL in it.

de Silva's masterful prose makes a glacially paced read feel super engaging and engrossing. I do feel a bit like he's shying away from letting things get "weird," so to speak, but maybe it's just layering up? Otherwise, very easy to just get sucked into this and let it carry you away, even as you're reading a 30 page chapter about a college football game and the elusive flavor of a sports drink.

There's something kind of Proustian about the meticulousness, thoroughness and obsessiveness in the narrative style here.

Pretty fun book so far--kinda feels a little in the vein of John Crowley's Little, Big but still quite it's own thing.

Something about the nature of art and audience and expression of ideas and intellectual ownership or whatever.

This is like really good and shit.

A young boy's caroming glove-ball in the Tate, motion capture technology and how bodies move in space and in their own bodies, Lillian Gilbreth's time-and-motion studies, drones, even some pop culture references. Oh, also a space opera in production with a dictum of rules by which space epics should follow to be scientifically accurate(ish).

I had hit a rough patch in keeping up with reading the past 3-4 months, but I'm trying to finish this before the new flick hits the silver screen. It's enjoyable so far, but can't help feel like some of the stylistic choices, like the italicized interior monologues, feel a little cheap. Story's fun though, and it's a good page burner that will hopefully get me reinvigorated in my reading habits.

Onto the final chapter of this thing. It's a strange, strange book that is no where near what I thought it would be, and I definitely feel like I need a shower every time I read it. It's a cool experience, but I'm also not sure I agree with the hype it receives. We'll see how the bizarro and funkily typeset conclusion pans out.

Not sure what expectations I had going into this thing, but it's definitely not like what I thought it would be--still enjoying it quite a bit though.

Hmmmm, a bit one note. I think the style is cool and distinctive which I really dig, however the aesthetic is running out of gas--nothing progresses, it just is.
