PPL and hoopla

Present day reinterpretation of Huckleberry Finn from a 21st century view of how the former slave and friend of Hucks would have viewed events if he’d had the perspective of a 21st century Black man. That’s a little convoluted for me.

Excellent!

Meh. I got bored. Plot is about 15 Americans of Swedish ancestry are recruited to spend the summer in Sweden engaging in various “folk” competitions which are often outlandish.

This is a book to use with a dyslexic student. Both teacher and student have to have the book. It’s been helpful for Marsha H. who is an adult learner and now feels confident enough to take a college course.

Interesting about Cook but I was pretty bored with descriptions of his partying with the Pacific Islanders. The book is interminable!

Half way through chapter 18 when loan runs out.

The subject is interesting. A very skilled waterworks engineer is newly assigned to the Naples area just before Vesuvius erupts. He systematically investigates all the preceding phenomena which is interesting. But the author takes every opportunity to gross the reader out with various aspects of Roman life and customs which I skimmed through but it got to be too much so I just bailed about half way through.
