Really enjoying this. One thing I like about picture books like this as opposed to manga is that the main idea of the page is summarized in one picture. In manga sometimes I get lost trying to figure out everything. This format keeps me focused on what’s important!

The Effortless State is about making the mundane and necessary more enjoyable. If you have to do it, you ought to make it fun. I grew up thinking the opposite, and so I think this chapter will be important for me to revisit. Hard work is not better than smart work. Taking the simplest path to a goal is not about cheating the system, it’s about keeping your sanity and peace.

This chapter was all about inversion: asking of a seemingly-difficult problem, “What if this were easy instead?” There’s a societal notion that “work” is only valid if it’s “hard work” but many formerly hard workers end up more successful by working less hard, working smart and simple. The most difficult path to solve a problem is not always the best, and shouldn’t be assumed as the best.

Did a first pass of extensive reading. I vaguely remember from when I listened to the audiobook that the introduction talks about things that happened in the author’s past, such as going to the hospital after a baseball game.

I would say I barely followed this so I’m definitely gonna have to look up some more vocab before I take another pass!

The first chapter had a lot of new adventure-related vocabulary so I read it a couple times. Definitely got easier though!

I will read 25 books this year. More than I ever have. I've always wanted to. Now that I have a Kindle Paperwhite (and love it) I have the excuse. I think 2 books a month is a reasonable goal.

I would also like to challenge myself to read my unread physical books before the end of the year. As a means of discipline and minimalism as I move to eBooks for pleasure reading.

Decent so far. I like Will Graham, at least from the TV show Hannibal, but there's only been brief mention of Hannibal Lecter thus far. Kinda disappointed to find out certain characters that are female in Hannibal were actually male... I think being a female suits those particular characters more. Ah well.

I checked this book out because I figured it would be interesting and a chance to boost vocabulary. Though I'm not far into it, it seems like it'll serve that purpose. I'm aiming to read at least one essay a day. I think that's perfect to help me get in the habit of reading again especially because I'll feel like I'm really competing something each day. Let's hope I actually read the entire thing. Haha
