Hamilton's narrative and style of writing is not what I'd hoped for; thank goodness I've started in on the chapters about colonial Adelaide.

So far not too bad. Has to be said with such a shallow history of official Australian participation in the ESC the more analytical chapters read so far seem a bit shallow.

I am becoming more & more enthusiastic about the underpinning historical and artistic themes English writes about in his book. The whole concept of ‘Entarte Kunst’ is being explored and expanded in ways I’ve never thought of or known before.

So far read some excellent chapters on the ‘Old Firm’ derby between Celtic & Rangers in the SPL, and a fascinating look at rivalries in Maltese soccer. An intriguing read…

It has been a bit of a struggle to maintain my momentum reading this sprawling yarn.

So far an interesting book that sheds light on its subject.

Herbert writes with a withering eye for some aspects of the characters who inhabit 'Capricornia'. and is unabashed in the racism of the time and place. Yet he also produces some extremely poetic descriptions of the land.

So far the three short stories of de Sade’s that I’ve read in this collection are rather tame. In fact they are no worse than Mills & Boon bodice rippers.

One can definitely see how the child informed the man.
The references to Central European culture as an influence on a young Barry Humphries are most interesting.
