okay okay, I know I'm not very far in but so far I'm having trouble with the awkward dialogue and the missed opportunities to flesh out her world building. it doesn't need to be much, but just making a mention to something and letting it drop using ellipses in the narrative is annoying.

I don't understand why it's taken so long to get to Rise but it makes this book feel so excrutiatingly slow. Cut out the first 30%, pepper it throughout. For the love of all things holy, it's not that difficult a concept.
