The Trail of Tears isn’t just about the removal of the Cherokee from Appalachia. It was about all of the removals under the policies of Congress and President Jackson. For example, was also about the removal of tribes in Ohio, some native and some refugees from New York or Michigan. I’m about a third through the book and I haven’t gotten to the Cherokee removal.

Who knew that Brett Kavanaugh went before SCOTUS in 1998 (he would have been 33!)? He was there to make the bogus argument that attorney-client privilege dies with a client. (It was about Vince Foster) 76 words into his argument, he was laughed at by the Court—-the only time he ever appeared before it.

Listening to this. So far it’s good insight for activist types. It gets into the underlying psychological and social reasons why people defend the status quo, even against their own self interests.

Among the prisoners at Alton, was perhaps a trans man:

“Last Saturday I saw the female man (Mollie Hays) for the first time, as she was on her way to dinner. She was still arrayed in masculine attire.”
