Meh. The first 25% of the book dragged on 😞
However I am glad to have persevered. It's now getting interesting and glad to see snarky, spoiled Theo being more than just the wicked step sister. That bits of the what was and could have been are starting to peek out. Also starting to see Beatrice ("cinderellla") isn't miss perfect either!

Much as I like how Bryce is written as a person. What i personally really don't like so far over this series is how relationships are being treated... this series falls under roman-tasy, and honestly it's hard to get behind the romance when it feels oh-so-casual, formed with love professed and then trashed oh so easily. First with kara-ryan-mzatal then with Jill-zack/zaakar-bryce. No commitment at all. Meh

Before Pacific rim, there are other mecha shows and animes. Comparing this to Pacific Rim isn't really that accurate. But I guess its one of the most recent. I personally feel Rebel Moon was probably inspired by many past hits

- Saikano (She the Ultimate Weapon)... likely less tragic (at least I hope so!) But just as melancholy
- Gundam Seed, where the philosophy behind war is touched on
- 5th Element and Code Geass
