being on my catholic journey ™️ made this book first feel irrelevant to me since i’ve already decided non-denominational/ protestant churches aren’t for me for the exact reasons he gives. now i hear it telling me “be Catholic, and convince everyone else to be Catholic” right now. obv the catholic church isn’t perfect, but if we’re looking for unity, where else but the Universal Church

with the CIY podcast, this has been just so clear about catholic teachings and especially the understanding of the deposit of the faith

it’s finally good (took 4hours, like 1/3 through) and i’m excited for the rest of the series

slow start. i just loved TATBILB and wanted another like it

listening to the book on Hallow so all i know is i’ve finished book 2… different than the writing im used to but i really really like it and feel the emotion and the devotion of saint augustine

i’m obsessed. it’s almost like i read til there’s something to wrestle with and then i like comb out the knot/ chew on it til i can grasp it. i love learning ab catholicism and having all my misconceptions corrected

oh it’s so good so far. i love trent horn’s youtube debates etc so i knew id like this book. already finished part 1 and am excited for part 2.

it seems it’s loosely a progression of like “why God” (why have a religion) then “why Jesus” (why Christian), “why the sacraments” (structures/ Catholic), “why saints & sinners” (beliefs/actions) and “why morality” (how we are changed).

so many things being revealed to me as i follow along with Fr. Mike Schmitz’s catechism in a year podcast— I love learning more about the Lord and so much of what i’ve felt my innermost being leaning towards is already written in the catechism. loving it so early on— only like 730 pages left

learned about the Liturgy of the Word. Quote that stood out and felt against what i have always believed: “Saying [the Creed] brings to mind that our faith is not personal— that it is communal, old, and vibrant.” Gonna ponder this one. also learned that the Prayers of the Faithful follow a structure. i just thought it was coincidental that they were usually similar. everything is so intentional; wow

following on Hallow— started it back over now that i have a physical catechism. very helpful so far

learning so much. i’m so excited for mass after learning more

in a really nice rhythm with reading the psalms and following my bible guide. it always feels so refreshing

finally got it back after my loan ended and i had to wait on hold. so much interesting info that makes so much sense but is highkey sad

i love reading this now as my last book of the NT for this year. i feel like it’s that missing puzzle piece to put it all together with our current times

been wanting to read this since i saw it on my therapist’s desk last year. very much loving it so far and am ready to take some notes on points that make me think and make it my personality.

started out lowkey really depressing but i heard this compared to “The Good Part” which i really liked. i like the premise and i feel like im finally into the meat of the book after having listened to it most of the evening today.

watch out everyone i’m about to be healed of my insecure attachment style (sike!) i’m learning a lot—basically anyone i’ve ever had mutual interest with was an avoidant and i basically have a disordered attachment style (bc im unique) and no one knows how to deal w that

actually started listening to this a while ago on youtube before the recording was banned— i remember listening to it when i got my teeth cleaned once like a year ago. caught up to where i was and then listened on my run. it’s cute seeing the whole setup come to fruition. easy to listen to while doing other things unlike a lot of the nonfiction i’ve been reading

finished up part 1. it’s reaffirming that a lot of this was what i did instinctually when i cut back on my social media and screen time over the past year. now it’s giving me a good way to move forward and better constraints and reasons to continue.

it’s surreal reading about your family’s family through the lens of someone who didn’t know them like i did. i’ve heard some of the horrors eddie put them through but reading ab chuck and uncle eddie’s role in stuff feels very out of body since both played a role for me at some point and chuck is literally my legal dad and the parent of my sibling… about to go full investigator on this family tree
