Gosh, Wright Thompson never fails to deliver. I’m only a few pages in, and yet he’s already plunked me right in the middle of the Mississippi Delta cotton fields.

One of the most deeply engrossing books I’ve cracked open in a long time. It immediately set the wheels of my journalist/researcher brain in motion, particularly because my wife is a clinical therapist and this book is giving me at least a small look at the work she does every day. Absolutely fascinating so far.

I had to force myself to stop reading for the night. I’ve never read anything like this book. Ever.

I don’t know what I expected from this book. I do know, however, that I did not expect a clinical, academic paper that reads more like a thesis than a narrative story. I’m only on page 39, though. I’ll review in full when I’m done.

I’m going to finish the book because I’m a completist. But this is very bad so far. Very. Bad.
