Daniel Severin is reading Tell-All
I like CP, love old Hollywood and love to hate author - star f***er Lillian Hellman, so this book was perfect for me. Not Chuck's best but not his worst either; the problem with this guy is that his books are never what we want them to be, so we judge more harshly than we should. You could do a lot worse than this one - Pygmy, anyone?

Daniel Severin is reading The Setup Man (Johnny Adcock, #1)
Not a bad mystery, perfect for baseball lovers and those who like their suspense TV movie-style. I enjoyed how this was set in my home town, accurately capturing locations and social attitudes of the bay area. It reminded me of a sports world Tortilla Curtain.

after reading so much crappy mainstream YA fiction I am finally getting into something that is queer and quality. Cassandra Claire does not count on either count.

Genius - from page 39: "and, if I remember correctly--since I am now approaching that head-on collision between not daring to remember and hoping to remember--unwillingly, remembering: he sang bass." Baldwin really nails the way we deal with unpleasant memories and the things we would rather not think back on, discreetly adding color to the story he is telling.

Slow-moving but exquisite!!

I picked this up to get a Jimmy Malloy fix via "A Few Trips and Some Poetry" and have gotten drawn into the whole book.

I can't decide if I love or hate this book. It's fun to read about intelligent characters and pick up on the jokes they make, literary characters they compare themselves to and movies they watch. At the same time the tone is so self-deprecating and borderline whiny that it gets old quickly.
