Yeah, I'm DNFing this one. Just can't connect with the characters. And, again, editing is a thing. Actually, it's probably the lack of editing that keeps me disconnected.

Ok i don't get it. I'm having a hard time connecting with these characters. & a really hard time seeing chemistry between them. Luckily my lunch break is almost over so I don't have to decide if I want to continue or not.

Not sure how to judge progress on Kobo app, but looks like about 1/6 through? On ch 4, anyway. So far, have noticed could use a run thru w/ a good editor. Not entirely sure I understand Jake's hangup about parental status. He seems ashamed?

Finished with book 1, The Steerswoman. It was much as I remembered, lovely and lyrical and elegant, but raised many questions for me, which, iirc, are not all answered in book 2, The Outskirter’s Secret.

I had forgotten just how deep and thoughtful and almost lyrical this story can be. I’m really glad I decided to reread, although it’s slow going with the whole parenting and working and just plain *life* stuff happening. Maybe I should have bought the ebook? No, this one deserves paper.

This is something of a reread, as i’ve read both books in this omnibus edition before. However, that was some 20+ years ago, so memory is a bit hazy & unreliable. So far, finding Rowan and Bel as interesting and uncommon as before.

I am...not honestly really sure what to say. I’m enjoying, but not really connecting to, the characters or the universe (I feel like I missed a lot of world-building, but the list for this universe is 41 works, mostly in literary magazines and anthologies, so not really surprising.) Also I’m a bit confused as to exactly which character I’m supposed to be sympathizing with.

I've had my eye on this one for a while, finally broke down & went with it because of a combination of Ibotta cash & the fact Gail Carriger chose it for her monthly read-along/book club thing. I am enjoying so far, I think.

Really enjoying this book. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read; I've had it downloaded for ages. I think maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for a semi-historical, sort of spooky-occult-y read? But totally in love now & will probably have to glom more when I'm done here.

I really need to revisit this book; I tried to make some rolls from it the other day & it was an abysmal failure plus I thought I remembered info that I could no longer find.

Still enjoying this a lot -- really feel for Eff and how isolated she feels.

I'll be honest; I got bored & set this aside & haven't picked it up since. As of now, it's a DNF.

(Made mistake of looking at other reviews. Apparently there was some uproar because of "erasure of Native Americans"? I haven't reached that bit yet; will keep eyes open.)

Seems to be sort of an Alternate History set during the Western expansion; really enjoying casual mentions of, for example, Lewis & Clark to set the feel.

I have a stack of library books to start on but I'm too busy glutting myself on crochet, Sterek fanfic (so much better than the actual show), and random murder shows on Netflix (more cozy-ish than not, usually with a historical edge to them).

When you hated a book and are debating whether or not to review it, so you go look at other people's reviews, and the things you hated most are the things they loved...

Have been meaning to read this for ages but didn't have the brain power for non-fluff. (seriously, only thing I have been able to concentrate on for longer than 10 min at a time is iCarly, ~thanks SO MUCH FOR THAT AMAZON~) but really enjoying it. Is *enjoying* really the right word? I can feel the painful coming, but not quite there yet...

I won a book in a giveaway. If I had known it was an *audiobook* I wouldn't have entered. *sigh*

reading stuff that had been wishlisted for a long while, had enthusiastic reviews/pimping from ppl, and in one case from an author who is just shy of being an autobuy. Sadly ALL of them have been solid "OK, but nothing special" for me... *sigh* But have some new releases I'm really excited about for next!

I just don't have the mental facility right now to concentrate on anything that requires any actual THOUGHT on my part right now. Fluffy fluffy fanfic all the way right now...

Reading the book b/c I love the tv show, but honestly, so far this is...less than engaging. Sort of info-dumpy; too much going on, and no real catch on who Phryne is and how her mind works. A little, but not enough for this point in the story.

Reading/watching my way through Harry Potter. Kids lost Sorcerer's Stone disc. Hoping it'll turn up as we clean. Today I read NOTHING tho, because errands & stuff.

I suppose I should make more of an effort to record SOMEWHERE what I think of the books I read. Only about 1/10th make it on to Goodreads...

Enjoying this, but it's sort of heavy-handed.

Do you have a personal DNF rule? Like, a point you have to get to in a book to feel like you've given it a fair chance before setting it aside and saying "Nope, not for me!"

Gotta say, LOVING the Dreamspinners TweetAway thing. Think I missed one yesterday, but...had to buy a fridge today so won't be buying many books for a while.

My head is trying to explode -- damn sinuses! -- so I'm immersing myself in comfort rereads here lately...
