I am currently on disc two of this wonderful (so far) book. It is on page 74 (of the library hardcover copy) that I heard, then looked up, this wonderful line:

"Only the poet or the saint can water an asphalt pavement in the confident anticipation that lilies will reward his labour."

I love that line!

Worst audio recording in the history of time. I have never listened to a worse recording. I guess the story is okay but you definitely need to read this one. Maybe I wound up with a cheap, knock-off pirated recording? Just awful.

I'm on disc 5 I think - love Caroline Lee's narration. My heart just broke for Erica, standing outside the bedroom listening to Clementine and Sam. :(

Having trouble with this one. I got back to it this morning - first time in a long time - but I really just skimmed from page 125 to 172. This would have made a great short story or novella but it is just too much detail and repetition. I've read LOTS of non-fiction wolf books without a problem - I've followed the wolves saga since the Yellowstone reintroduction program - this one is just too dense.

Nancy Horan needs a good editor! I would never read this at nearly 500 pages. I am listening to the audio which comes on automatically when I start the car or I would have abandoned it long ago. It is not bad - just WAY too long! And I'm not sure - is it the book, the audio or the reader - the flow between chapters is awkward and off -putting. I will persevere to the bitter end!

This is a hard book to listen to, one character is harder to like than the next, especially Beryl herself. What a group! I need to read West With the Night and Out of Africa again - I read them both too many years ago to have a sense of how much of this one is based on truth. McLain has a wonderful way with words though!

Really enjoying the audio version of this so far. The narration by Katharine McEwan is fabulous.

I'm probably 2/3 of the way through the audio CD version of Boy, Snow, Bird and I am so confused and, honestly, so bored that I just want it to be over. It started out okay but once she introduced the racial theme and changed narrators I got lost - I have no idea who is black and who is white - there are so many aunts and grandparents - I've just lost my focus and the focus of the story. Not going well.

Struggling with this one. Not really liking it at all. The writing and the story are disjointed and all over the place. And it takes real talent to be able to tell a story through letters and it isn't a talent that Bloom has, unfortunately. It is just too contrived.

I'm on disc 5 or 6 of 9 discs and it can't end soon enough for me. Maybe this is a book that should be read but I'm not finding anything to like about this book so far. I can't wait for Bernadette to disappear and please let her stay gone!

Wow - what a really uncomfortable story line - I had no idea what I was getting into! It really keeps you on edge. I am listening to the audiobook narrated by Noah Taylor.

A classic, written in 1885, this book is a fictional account of a quest to find King Solomon's Mines, based on the author's own adventures in South Africa during Britain's war with the Zulus and the First Boer War which followed. Allan Quatermain is an improbable hero and the story certainly does not lack for excitement!

Light and fun reading. I'm not sure that MMA Ramotswe is the detective I would want on the job but I am certainly enjoying her successes and failures

About half way through the audio version and loving it.
