ah yes life is bleak <3

Why was it that women could never work hard enough to quiet their nagging fear that they were not enough? That they were falling behind?… Because if there was a right way, then perhaps they could find it, and if they found it… then all the pieces of their lives would fall into place and they would be happy. Such delusion.

She didn’t really give me back my heart, but that’s what it felt like, like my heart had flown out of my body and now it was lying all naked and raw in her hands, beating like crazy, and even though she was offering to return it to me, it didn’t really want to come home. She sees the truth, and he doesn’t know how, or why, only knows that he doesn’t want it to end. Because for the first time in months, in years, in his whole life, perhaps, Henry doesn’t feel cursed at all. For the first time, he feels seen. 🥹

really valuable stuff for anybody in any relationship frankly

sometimes you need people to be perfect and they can’t be and you hate them forever for not being even thought it isn’t their fault and it’s not yours either. you just needed something they didn’t have in them to give you.

When I say next to nothing has happened in this book and yet I am so gripped in the story. I mean that Sally Rooney is such an incredible writer and that simply can’t be understated.

this book discusses shame often and as living-walking- CO2- breathing Earth dwellers, we all feel shame in one way or another. instead of hiding in, under, or around shame, he’s confronting it thus we are confronting it. “i make art… it’s what time doesn’t ruin” some feel shame for simply existing but existence, depending on who you ask, is a gift.

checking in to say this is a beautiful book and it’s gorgeously written and man i love poetry

i’m just so captivated by this writing, it’s like having sugar before bed.

in short, i love it so far!
