Just read the part where Tenzing and Hillary conquer the Everest, it is oddly understated as far as the writing is concerned, as if Unsworth is saving up for the later chapters.

"There was an adult part of her and a part that was still a child—and they were out of sync. And this out-of-sync quality made people uneasy."

How does he put these things into words so easily :3 I would have fretted with this feeling and could never have said this...

Chapter 6 gives you the first climbing deaths on the Everest, and because the last record of these men is a vlimpse a fellow climber caugbt of them, it is oddly touching. Also commented upon is the mystery surrounding them both, they might have been the first people to have conquered the summit. And Unsworth crisp unadorned writing paints this picturr very vividly

The early part of the book is more about the politics of the times affecting the expeditions than the expedition themselves, but by the 3rd chapter the climbers are becoming the focus. Looking forward to the later chapters.
