So far, I’ve been forcing myself not to DNF. I feel like I have no idea what’s going on a third of the time. And when I’m not confused - I’m sad

Decided to do another throwback to my preteen faves but by god is the writing in this book bad. I don’t know if I’ll be able to stand it.

Not bad, but not terribly engaged so far

Each time I read a non-fiction about a shipwreck, I'm always reminded that I'm too squeamish for these sorts of books. And yet I never learn.

Is it bad that I was cheering for the whales that entire time?

Okay I’ll admit this is kind of fun

This is my first foray into romantasy in a couple of years and it’s been a bit rough so far. It irks me that they treat the reader like an idiot and over-explain everything

GUYS THERE'S AN ACTUAL SPOTIFY ALBUM WITH THE HYMNS FROM THIS BOOK!!! Y'all can bet yo asses that ima be rockin out to these eco gospels for the next month.

Ohmygod I absolutely lost it when they started singing 🤣

I don’t want this series to be over 🥺

“Sadness can make us bitter or wise - we get to choose.” What a great quote

I’m getting tired. Everyone is broken and beautiful and speaks in profound poetic statements

Not loving this so far. Feels a lot like our protagonist is a modern day feminist girlboss that got transported to 1789 along with her worshipful husband

It’s not bad but the novelty of the book is wearing thin

I really like Michelle’s narration

I’m really struggling with this but I’m in too deep to give up now

I think I’m finally starting to not be completely lost anymore. Took me long enough 😅

“For the quality of owning freezes you forever into ‘I’, and cuts you off forever from the ‘we’”

“And this you can know - fear the time when Manself will not suffer and die for a concept, for this one quality is the foundation of Manself, and this one quality is man, distinctive in the universe”

Those interlude chapters are pretty impactful

Yes I’m rereading this. I want to yearnnn goddammit. Sue me

I like that the main character is a biologist. I do find her a bit irritating though - she's a copy and paste of the Nettle and Bone protagonist.

I’m very bored by this book but I need to somehow finish it by Saturday morning for a book club 😬

Very unserious and the humour is somewhat crude/juvenile/heavy on the penis jokes. But sometimes all a girlie wants is a fluffy read that allows her to turn 90% of her brain off

I’d forgotten how entertaining Temeraire’s childlike way of seeing the world can be
