Regina - Stupid girl but sad story

The Rose of Sharon - oh wow! this is the first story in this book to stun me.. the writing is beautiful but melancholic. sublime!

La China - This links back to Yuliana and Constanza.. I’m realising each story gives insight into a different world, coming together to create a bigger story which I’m lowkey enjoying. I wonder how they’ll wrap it all up!

God didn’t come through - this one truly is a sad story but even sadder as it’s the other side of God Forgive Us. It reenforced the systemic neglect and the cycle breeding of victims turning into perpetrators even more so

Constanza - uhmm.. first off the michelle obama phrase was silly?!.. this was a good read, gripping that it linked back to Yulianna story now I wonder how all these women’s stories are intertwined!

More and more he comes to realise that people fall into three camps: those who hardly, if ever see beauty, even when it strikes them between the eyes; those who recognize it only when it is made apparent to them; and those rare souls who find beauty everywhere they turn, even in the most unexpected places.

God Forgive Us - A harrowing glimpse into systemic neglect that unfolds in a forgotten community abandoned by its municipality, where poverty drives desperation and a family’s instinct to protect themselves ends in fatal death. Stark and unsettling, this is a sobering reflection on institutional failure :(

Yuliana - This read like an excerpt from the queen of the south and a terrible sitcom.. the tone of the story telling was like that of a tween trying so hard to sound cool.. (granted these are translated from a different language. Streetwise yes, gritty the verdicts still undecided, wickedly funny absolutely not!

Parsley and Coca Cola - very dark and graphic! gave me the chills

Girlie was actually a scary story- like having sleeping paralysis and interacting with the demon that has you tied down and your parents can’t save you- eish

oh God a part II..?! the male illegitimate sons side of the story -_- unexpected and also is it necessary this late in the book?

isn’t it absurd that everything she for years, all the plans, all the death, the sanctimonious tunnel vision and ambition she cherished, fuelled and achieved ended with her boyfriend/brother fiancé accidentally falling off the balcony.

I’m half way through this and still don’t know why she’s in jail.. We get it, you had a shit father who didn’t want anything to do with you, get over it-you’re not the first and won’t be the last!
The air of superiority because she suffered in her early years is almost insufferable (written as such atleast -_^
